What is in the country flag quiz?
A pool of all 195 recognised countries, from the giants everyone knows to tiny island states most people have never seen on a map. Each round picks 20 at random, shows the flag large on your screen and offers four country names. One is right; the other three are random countries from the same continent, so an African flag always comes with African options.
The quiz is for anyone from about ten years old upwards. Kids tend to beat adults on the obscure ones, because they still look at flags with fresh eyes.

How does scoring work in the flag quiz?
Each correct answer is one point, so the maximum is 20. Nine or fewer makes you a Flag Rookie, 10 to 15 a Globetrotter and 16 or more a Flag Master. There are no penalties for wrong guesses, so always pick something rather than skipping.
The score card shows your rank and is built for sharing, with a link that gives your friends the exact same 20 flags you played.
Which flags trip people up the most?
The lookalikes from the same continent, which can turn up in the same question. The near-identical twins (Chad and Romania, Indonesia and Monaco) are never offered together, but these can be:
- Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, yellow, blue and red in the same order
- Monaco and Poland, red over white versus white over red
- Australia and New Zealand, same corner, different stars
- Senegal, Mali and Guinea, three ways to arrange green, yellow and red
- Norway, Iceland and the rest of the Nordic cross family
How can I learn flags faster?
Group them. Nordic crosses, Pan-African colours, Pan-Arab colours, Central American blue-white-blue, the former Soviet republics. Once you know the family, the quiz only has to tell you which member you are looking at. Play three rounds a day for a week and the random draw will have shown you most of the world.
Why is the country flag quiz so popular?
Flags are the perfect quiz material: instantly visual, impossible to half-know, and attached to places people have been or want to go. During the World Cup or the Olympics the quiz gets played between matches, in classrooms it fills the last ten minutes of a geography lesson, and in pub quiz teams it exposes who really deserves the title of geography expert. Travellers test themselves before a trip, expats play to show off the flags of their region, and plenty of people simply enjoy the moment Bhutan appears and the whole table goes quiet. If Europe is your strong suit, the European flag quiz narrows the field and raises the difficulty.
Country flag quiz FAQ
How many flags are in the country flag quiz?
All 195 countries recognised by the United Nations and its observers are in the pool. Each round shows 20 of them at random, so two games rarely look alike. Play enough rounds and you will eventually see every flag in the world.
Is the flag quiz suitable for children?
Yes, and children are often the best at it. The flags are shown large and clear, the four answer buttons are easy to tap on a phone, and there is nothing to read beyond country names. Teachers use it as a classroom warm-up for ages eight and up.
What score should I expect on the first try?
Ten to 15 correct is Globetrotter and 16 or more is Flag Master. Reaching 16 can take a few games, because the random draw will eventually serve you Caribbean and Pacific island flags that few people recognise.
Are the wrong answers random?
Not entirely. The three wrong options are picked at random from the same continent as the right answer, so you cannot rule them out by region. Near-identical twins such as Chad and Romania are never shown together. Guessing by colour alone will not get you far.
Can I play the flag quiz again with new flags?
Yes. Every new round draws another 20 flags from the full pool, so you can replay as often as you like and keep meeting new ones. Your best score is yours to remember or screenshot; the quiz itself stores nothing.
Does the quiz include territories and dependencies?
No. It sticks to sovereign countries, so you will not see Greenland, Puerto Rico or Hong Kong. That keeps the pool at a clean 195 and avoids arguments about what counts as a country.
