What is the family quiz and who can play it?
It is a personal quiz about one family member, answered by the rest. The 20-question bank is written around home life: who sits where at the table, who needs three alarms, who is the DJ on a road trip and who cheats at game night. Every player ends up in one of three result tiers and on a shared scoreboard.
Anyone in the family can play, including kids who are old enough to read a phone screen and grandparents who are not sure what a link is. The questions have no awkward topics, so a ten-year-old and a seventy-year-old can play the same quiz without anyone having to explain anything.

How does the family quiz work in a group chat?
You type your name, answer 10 questions about yourself and get a link. Paste it in the family WhatsApp group, the iMessage thread or the Facebook family group. Each person who opens it enters their name and guesses your 10 answers, one by one, and sees their score straight away.
The scoreboard shows who played and how they did, so the chat fills up with screenshots within minutes. The person who made the quiz can also open any result and see which questions a relative got wrong, which is usually where the funniest conversations start.
What questions are in the family quiz?
The questions are about the version of you that only shows up at home. Here are a few from the bank.
- What is your favourite family dinner: pasta, biryani, a roast, soup or whatever grandma makes?
- Which role do you play at home: the funny one, the responsible one, the peacemaker or the rebel?
- Which chore do you hate most: dishes, laundry, taking out the bins or cleaning the bathroom?
- On a road trip, are you the driver, the navigator, the DJ or asleep in the back?
- On game night, are you the rule checker, the sore loser or the one who cheats?
Why is the family quiz popular at family gatherings?
Because it gives every generation the same thing to do at the same time, which is rare. It shows up at Thanksgiving tables in the US, Boxing Day afternoons in the UK, Eid and Diwali visits in India and Sunday lunches in the Philippines. Parents use it to find out what their teenagers are actually like, teenagers use it to prove their parents have no idea, and siblings use it to settle who the favourite child is. It also works at a distance: families spread across countries play it on the same evening and compare scores on the next call. The quiz is short enough that even the relative who hates games will try it once.
How do I see my friends' answers?
- After you make your quiz, tap “Check Scores 🏆” on your share page. You see every friend's score, and 👁️ shows what they answered.
- On that page, copy “Your private scores link” and keep it, for example in your notes. It opens your scores in any app or browser.
- Don't open your own friend link and fill it in yourself: that link is for your friends. The site recognises you only in the app where you made the quiz, or through your private link.
Family quiz FAQ
Can young children play the family quiz?
Yes, as long as they can read the questions. The answers are pictures and short phrases with emojis, so even younger kids can guess with a bit of help. Many parents make a quiz about themselves and let the children play it as a reading exercise in disguise.
How do I share the family quiz with relatives who are not on WhatsApp?
The share page has buttons for WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram, plus a copy button. Copy the link and send it by text message, email or any other app. It opens in a normal phone browser, so it works for relatives on any device.
What do the family quiz results mean?
Three or fewer correct answers makes someone a distant relative, four to six makes them a family member, and seven or more earns the family expert title. The top three on the scoreboard also get medals, so there is a clear winner for the family to argue about.
Can every family member make their own family quiz?
Yes, and that is the best way to play it. Each person creates a quiz about themselves and shares it in the same group. By the end of the evening you have a scoreboard for everyone, and a very clear picture of who pays attention at the dinner table.
Does the family quiz ask anything private or embarrassing?
No. The questions are about dinners, chores, holidays, seating at the table and game night behaviour. There is nothing about relationships, money or health, so it is safe for a group that includes grandparents, in-laws and small children.
How is the family quiz different from the best friend test?
Same idea, different question bank. The best friend test asks about personal taste and fears, which friends know. The family quiz asks about home life: your seat at the table, how you wake up, your dream family holiday. Things your relatives have watched for years.
